Stephen is a director of the company and has an honours degree in Accounting & Finance and has been a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) since 1996. He was also a member of the Institute of Indirect Taxation (IIT) before its merger with the CIOT. Stephen started his tax career as a tax assistant in a small firm of accountants in Wales before moving to the South West of England in the year 2000 to take up a more senior role with Saffery Champness, a top 20 firm of accountants. In 2007 Stephen joined Milsted Langdon in Somerset and became Tax Partner in 2012 before leaving in 2016 to pursue his love of everything SDLT related.
Stephen has 20 years' experience in all aspects of taxation but has specialised in VAT and SDLT for the last five years and ATED in more recent times. His areas of SDLT expertise include partnership transfers, transactions and incorporations, land exchanges and partitions, pre-completion transactions, leases including acquisitions, assignments and overlap relief, the 3% surcharge and its interaction with multiple dwellings relief and other reliefs associated with charities, housing associations and developers.
